    Overview

Gothiks, Rounded Out is a printed type specimen designed to showcase Gothiks Round, a geometric sans-serif typeface by Daniel Sabino. The booklet emphasizes bold, modular layouts and high-contrast color to highlight the structure and personality of the type.

    Concept

The design takes subtle inspiration from the recent Cartoon Network rebrand, which pairs playful energy with clean structure. The rounded, condensed forms of Gothiks Round felt naturally aligned with this tone—quirky, energetic, but highly readable. I used this connection to guide the visual language of the booklet, leaning into a graphic, CMYK-based palette and blocky, screen-like layouts.
The grid system and color blocking are a nod to analog TV design, digital test screens, and the rhythm of motion graphics, creating a sense of movement and structure throughout.

    Design Approach

    • Featured all font weights, including condensed and compressed versions
    • Used a CMYK-driven color palette and grid system to reference early screen-based media
    • Highlighted type anatomy through clear, layered diagrams and labeled forms
    • Incorporated TV-inspired terms and arrangements to emphasize the typeface’s retro-futuristic tone
    • Balanced expressive visuals with informative, accessible layout strategies

    Outcome

Gothiks, Rounded Out captures the balance between structure and personality. The typeface’s rounded terminals, vertical rhythm, and condensed proportions make it feel at home in bold, animated environments—echoing the design language of modern broadcast graphics. This project demonstrates my interest in using typography to bridge editorial content with pop culture references and visual storytelling.
